Was achieving crusty title like VP in the banking industry over the head? Was it ever so important to call it sustainable for retirement? Was surfacing a different twist from company employed to self-employed of a passion possible? What draws out the potential to want to turn the table around can only be when there is a deep calling of the inner heart and soul to response to “Are you living an expectation fit answerable to yourself?” That no doubt needs courage and faith!
There has been countless debate on how one define success. The equation to me has always been that of “Living it out of what you dream it to be within capabilities, regardless of the eyes and expectations of the world.“ To me, life is more than those norms of unanimous agreement on chasing highly visible achievements from corporate to personal status. It is about weaving a large part of lighting up the spark in your spirit, go with the flow and shine upon others in congruence to your belief system.
How Flourish started was purely an inspiration to have others enjoy the labor of love born from the passion of baking pastries. I went on to be trained in Paris, Japan, Bangkok and United States after many years of self exploration. Then eventually the courage to take a break from the corporate world for a venture. Thank God, I am glad that I did. My first leap was the Village of Sheue Puffs by Flourish at Chinatown Complex Food Centre, followed by Café@Smith, it was overwhelmingly received and that led me to eventually carve out my own space with Flourish Pastries for backend production several years back.
Apart from the divine cream puffs that many still fondly remembers, French tarts was my specialty and No. 1 bestseller at Flourish Pastries at tail end with expended pastries range to carrot cake, lemon basil cakes, various range of cookies, pineapple tarts etc. Along the journey, the organisation was transformed into a social enterprise helping autism youth and kids to develop baking skills as a career option.
Flourish today has moved away from baking focus. It has under its xxxxx, culinary workshops, crafts and other art form under its belt as these projects become part of the runway. Don’t let your dream sleeping away. Discover your passion, challenge the doing of things that you always want to do and do it with heart. Partner someone who can assist you with various commercial aspects. Feel the need to learn from others, improve upon it and freely share the knowledge.
We have done countless things over the past many years. Just like how Sir Thomas Edison on his success of inventing the light bulb answered the reporter brilliantly “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”.
